Biometric Devices FAQs
Fingerprint readers used alongside RFID for two-factor door access.
Enrollment
HR or an admin enrolls an employee's fingerprint directly at the device (or via a desktop enrollment station, depending on the model) during onboarding — it takes a couple of minutes per person.
Yes, we recommend enrolling at least two fingers per person so a minor cut or bandage doesn't lock someone out.
It happens occasionally (very dry skin, certain scars); those individuals can be set up on RFID-card-only access for the same door instead.
Accuracy & hygiene
Modern optical/capacitive sensors have a very low false-accept rate; combined with a required RFID card tap for two-factor doors, the effective security is significantly higher than either credential alone.
Contactless and low-contact sensor options are available for shared entrances; standard contact sensors are also easy to wipe down as part of routine cleaning.
Privacy
No. Enrollment stores a mathematical template derived from the fingerprint, not a reconstructable image, and that template is encrypted at rest — the same security model applied to other sensitive fields in the platform.
That's your organization's policy decision; the platform supports RFID-only, fingerprint-only, or both together per door, so you can offer biometric as optional if you prefer.
